What is a Night Nurse or Baby Nurse?

A Night Nurse, also known as a Baby Nurse or Newborn Care Specialist is a non-medical professional who provides in-home newborn care. They help assist and educate parents the first few weeks and months with a new baby. They provide overnight, daytime and 24-hour care.
*All Nightingales are certified Postpartum Doulas or certified Newborn Care Specialists.

Does “Night Nurse” mean they have a nursing degree?

No, night nurse is a term meaning baby nurse or infant specialist, they provide non-medical care for your baby. *Nightingale Night Nurses are not registered nurses and we do not perform medical related tasks.

Can The Nightingales rest while my baby is sleeping?

Yes, with a “listening ear”. If your baby wakes your Nightingale will be close by and ready to soothe them back to sleep.

What do I need to provide for The Nightingales to rest comfortably?

At the very least a pillow, blanket and a  reclining chair. A bed or couch is optional and much appreciated.

What is my family if sick?

We leave the decision of coming to work when you or a family member is sick up to each individual Nightingale. Some Nightingale’s work with more than one family at a time, the goal is not to expose other families with newborns to illnesses.

How long should I book overnight care for?

Good question. Every family’s needs are different. We recommend at least a few nights a week for at least the first two weeks up to sixteen weeks, or longer if needed. Multiples and preemies usually need care for longer than a singleton or full term baby, we can work with your family’s individual needs.

How early should I reserve The Nightingales?

We recommend booking as soon as possible. Our Nightingales get book on a first come first serve basis and some families book our care as early as their first trimester in pregnancy. We can try to accommodate last minute requests, so don’t hesitate to contact us.

Is there a travel fee?

Yes, there is a $25 round trip travel fee for every shift

What is the cost?

Singletons $295 Twins $325 Triplets $355
Our rates are based on an 8 hour shift. Extra hours can be added at $35/hr
