Nightingales Team Leader / Founder Kristin Smith
Kristin was born and raised in Western MA. As a young girl she was fascinated with pregnancy, birth and babies. At 16, she started her career as a nanny for the summer on Long Island NY. She then pursued a career as a professional Nanny. In 2008, Kristin was awarded Nanny of The Year and in 2009 Kristin was a candidate for America’s Supernanny. After 10 years as a professional Nanny, working with over a dozen children and the birth of her own daughter, her paths as a nanny and a mom intertwined and her journey supporting new and growing families began. She learned first hand how raw and tender a woman is during those first few weeks and months after giving birth and how important a support system is.
Kristin doesn’t hesitate to offer advice, guidance, or to just follow your lead, she is there to support you every step of the way as you discover and navigate your parenting journey.
Kristin lives with her husband Gerard and daughter Juliana in Central MA. She enjoys her morning coffee (she wouldn’t survive without coffee) family hikes, movies, card games, long walks on the beach and most of all watching her daughter play softball.
Nightingales Executive Assistant / Nanny Placement Coordinator
Karina is a Rhode Island native who has babies in her blood. While she was growing up her Meme, and later her mother, took in foster babies straight from the hospital. Her brother was born when she was 11 and by that time she was hooked on that fresh baby smell. Right out of High School she got herself a job working with infants at a child care center, and hasn't stopped working professionally with babies since.
Karina is formally trained as a Newborn Care Specialist and Lactation Educator. She also holds a degree in Child Development from URI. Throughout her career she has never stopped taking the newest trainings, attending conferences and furthering her education. Her focus is on educating and empowering parents.
In early 2019, Karina brought this lifetime of baby experience to the Nightingales Team. She serves as the Executive Assistant to Kristin and is the Nanny Placement Coordinator. Within this role she is a content creator, parent educator, organizer, marketer, researcher and all around get things done girl. You may run into her on our social media, or receive a return call or email with her on the line.
The Nightingale Story
In 2009, Kristin trained to be a birth & postpartum doula with Warm Welcome Birth services. She launched her private practice Blissful Doula and has attended 112 births and support over 100 families and 36 sets of twins with postpartum and overnight newborn care. Kristin’s solo practice became so busy that she launched Nightingale Night Nurses – Boston’s Premier Overnight Newborn Care agency. She matches experienced Postpartum Doulas, Night Nurses and Baby Nurses with families looking for Overnight Newborn Care. With her expansive knowledge of newborns and postpartum healing she helps set up a care plan that is unique to their family’s individual needs. Every family gets to work with Kristin in some capacity, whether it be the in-home consult, day visits to help with breastfeeding or overnight newborn care.
The best gift Kristin has to offer new and growing families is her ability to provide them with her knowledge and experience as she helps them create a postpartum wellness plan that best suits their unique individual needs. Her goal is to instill confidence and set them for a success in their parenting journey.
