Why choose a Newborn Care Specialist?
A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) is a highly experienced individual who specializes in newborn and infant care. Most NCS’s have undergone specialized training and have advanced knowledge in subjects such as multiples or sleep training. A NCS can work with your family for the first few weeks or months of your baby’s life. When the time comes for your family to transition into having a nanny, your NCS can provide hands-on training so that consistency in care can continue after her term ends.
We have skilled newborn care specialists nationwide. How can we help you?
How we find just the right Newborn Care Specialist for your family :
The secret to a healthy postpartum:
Assignments vary in length between 2 weeks and 6 months; on average families hire a NCS for approximately 12 weeks (or until their baby is successfully sleeping through the night). Depending on experience, qualifications, and number of children (singleton or multiples) rates for Newborn Care Specialists can range from $30-$50/hr.
We recommend reaching out to book your NCS 2-3 months before your due date, or earlier if possible. Highly experienced NCS book up quickly.
Newborn Care Specialist Responsibilities
Overnight 24/7 Care
Your professional newborn care specialist or postpartum doula arrives at your home when your baby is born and stays for as long as you need care. Your newborn care specialist will work 16-20 hours each day, 5-7 days a week while they stay in your home or at a nearby accommodation. During their shifts your specialist can provide assistance with things such as: soothing, swaddling, bathing, diaper changes, dressing, feeding, burping, sleep hygiene, cleaning/preparing bottles/pump parts, baby laundry, tidying the nursery, and engaging in age-appropriate activities with your newborn.
Our main goal is to support you as new parents as you transition home with your newborn. We teach you how to care for your baby from day one by giving supportive and non-judgemental feedback and tips. Your Newborn care specialist is your “person” and your personal expert on all things baby. We want to leave your home with you feeling empowered and prepared to complete the rest of your parenting journey.
Your specialist will maintain logs during our shifts, keeping track of feeding and sleeping patterns, along with other pertinent information and observations to help establish a healthy routine. Most newborn care specialists are adept at getting babies into a routine from week one! Our goal is to leave you with a baby that takes excellent naps, is well nourished and sleeps through the night.
Whether you are breastfeeding, formula feeding, or pumping, we are ready to work out a plan for your support. If you are breastfeeding your newborn care specialist can bring your baby to you when it’s time to feed and either give you space or support while your baby is nursing. If your baby is bottle feeding then your newborn care specialist can take over complete care of your baby during their entire night shift, and either take over daytime feedings as well or support you while you nourish your baby.
